Panoramic Photos!
February 4, 2007
I’ve found a great website that has tips on shooting in panoramic view with a normal digital camera. Although he states he uses a special camera this can be done using any digital camera!
Although there are some great tips on this site, theres also a program which ive been informed of called autopano which will magically create the full panoramic image for you by litterely adding all the photos and pressing render. It even sorts out and strange edges and colours.
Anyone who is currently looking into creating a mapping system for their next director project and is thinking of creating a virtual environment (scrolling pictures) is best to check these links out as they’ve come in handy with my project.

In a nutshell, its really easy to do… get a tripod (as it helps), make sure you are not using a wideangle lens (otherwise you get distortion, aim for about 40mm or therabouts), and make sure you are shooting in manual mode keeping the exposure settings identical throughout the shoot.
Make sure you overlap each picture by about 1/4th’ish, then use a panoramic utility to merge the pictures together, the results won’t be perfect but you can use photoshop to sort that out.
Really want to go out and do some landscape photography, but most of the landscape around here is poor… why cant we have mountains on our doorstep!!
