Interactive Prototype Designs

For the next assignment intsted of creating something new and innoative for people to use (sorry Garrett!) I’ve dicided to create something interative that can be used on a daily basis that can be improved upon.

So far i’ve dwindled down my next assignment to either two ideas.

the first being a interative guide for dover castle. When i was there during the summer last year i always found myself lost or unsure of which section i was in. So after googling i found these links:

The Black Country Living History Museum

The Website provides a full drawn layout of the museum, Although it has a problem with the information loading above the map and there being too many points to click, its still a good use of mapping. Though i would have liked to see the information load at the bottom of the page to allow your eyes to read down from the map. The Interface could be very helpful on selecting different areas of a museum and loading up / zooming in on the secion.

Underground Map

The rollovers are a fantastic idea which then zoom in on the area selected.

Concept Mapping Touch Board (wikiWall)

Multi-touch tabletop interaction (tabulaTouch)

These were a couple of experimetal prototypes i found very promising as it propts the user to play with the device and almost find different ways that they feel comfortable using program. Touch screen devices seem to be the more popular choice in terms of interactivity at the moment with the current boom of the nintendo ds and PDA’s.

Another advantage of touch screen is that the user feel like they have more control over the device and it breaks the boundrys of conventional menus.

Kids interactive Museum

Whilst thinking about changing or re-creating and original design i thought about creating something simple that even kids could use it. Museums seem to aim and get children involved by making everything interactive and playful, so in a sense i tried thinking from a kids point of view. This museum is a perfect example of what could be used in the design. It helps children learn and create their own interpretation.

Interactive Games

Another Area i explored was interaction in computer games. Thinking about chris’ flash interactive thane project he made last year i could encorporate this into the design and create a virtual tour where the user can interact with it. So if they want to access areas they click it and it loops round on an demonstation of someone walking around the section or just the area being show.

Im currently researching the second idea so ill post it soon.

Any ideas or comments please feel free to say.
