My first banner

October 12, 2006

Okay here’s me having a go. I’ll delete the text because obviously I’m an idiot and didn’t read Garrett’s original post properly. But if you’ve got any suggestions on how to alter this, such as stuff to add or different backgrounds or whatnot, then feel free to tear me apart. Or just do your own version.

not bad. couple of suggestions don’t crop the rubix cube top and bottom, it’s a shame because it’s a good image. personally i think the fonts A isn’t the best – it’s cross bar could be a few pixels wider.

I did try it with the whole cube. The problem with not cropping the image is that it ends up losing nearly all of the detail, and the detail at the lower end of the cube is sketchy at best anyway. You’re definitely right about that font though, it’s starting to annoy me.

I have the whole cube on its own saved as a seperate image, so I’ll put it up on imageshack and add a link to it sometime soon.

No no no, I meant you have to explain how in the context of the image as part of a webpage that what you said is relevent.

Anyway, I’m flattered that the number one down-side you could find to my work is that, so thankyou.

Well in your articulate 8 syllable comment it would be hard for anyone to fathom that this is what you were requesting of me. However i will fogive this. With regard to you banner, its a start, not to suggest for a moment its ‘ideal’ in any sense. However you were willing to try, remember that failing is just the long way round to succeeding.

If you really want the banner to serve its purpose, as i would assume you do, You need to think about the environment you are dealing with. Look at the surrounding colours, this particular style sheet is using pastle greens and yellows, try to factor in how you can offset these colours to greatest effect. Look at the placement of the rubix cube with regard to the banner, dont centre it, try offsetting it to the right, also look at what else you could include perhaps work up a background with gentle shades.

As i say these are just suggestions, use or discard of your own accord, but try to understand this isnt a competiton.

That’s more like it. That’s all I wanted to hear you know. I know it’s not a competition, and I don’t treat it like such. The cube is slightly off centre but like you say, it’s still too central to look right, and it needs a better environment surrounding it. I have miles to go before being anywhere near good, and a long critique of what I do like that one there is what I ask for and I’m glad for it – whereas putting down needless slurs will be met with 8 syllable responses.

After struggling through the poor grammer of that last post im still no clearer to what your saying, thus i have now lost intrest.

I appreciate that, coming from someone who can’t even spell the word. You’re embarassing yourself now, so it’s probably best that you do lose interest and go make a fool of yourself elsewhere.
